Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is an evidence-based programme that involves weekly group classes and daily mindfulness exercises to practice at home, over an 8-week period. MBSR teaches people how to increase mindfulness by becoming more aware of the workings of the mind and, in doing so, recognise that there are several choice points to prevent your mind from slipping back into old patterns. One of the main approaches for learning about this is the practice of mindfulness mediation and movement. A number of different practices are covered over the 8 weeks, and you will be helped to discover which ones are most helpful to you. We simply ask that you try all of the mediations in the class and at home. The class also provides an opportunity to care for yourself by being kind and gentle with each new learning that may occur during the process. MBSR has been shown to be helpful in managing pain, long term conditions, menopause, sleep problems and stress. You MUST attend an induction session prior to joining the course. This will take place on Friday 3rd October at 09.30 in the Tiffey Room. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via the group coordinator.
